Parkers maple barn fire1/20/2024 Some producers will be serving breakfast.ĭonna Ianson, of Brydonson Farm on North Ayers Hill Road near Coudersport, said Maple Weekend has been a big hit, drawing visitors from the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and other states. Each farm has a specialty and a recipe or two that have been passed down through the family over generations. While most farms have gone to tubing and vacuum-pump systems, a fair number still hang some buckets in the trees, and a few have foregone central collection altogether.Įven the creation of products varies at each location, and range from maple salad dressing or barbecue sauce to jellies, cookies, maple milkshakes and cotton candy. Some farms fire with natural gas or fuel oil, while others use a traditional wood fire during the evaporation process. The event began in 2005 and now has 17 participating farms across Potter and Tioga counties offering tours, demonstrations and maple products, as well as tours to share stories of each farm and processes used to produce syrup. Producers across Potter and Tioga counties are planning open houses from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday, March 17-18. Syrup production is ramping up for the 14th annual Maple Weekend. There will be 17 operators welcoming visitors for the 14th annual Maple Weekend (March 17-18). All signs point to a good year, although producers are at the mercy of Mother Nature. Local maple producers got an early start on the syruping season due to favorable weather conditions.
